Introduction

The Summit, held within the framework of Planet Budapest 2021, is the most prestigious international diplomatic meeting on sustainable development in the Central European region. During the event, the world’s leading policymakers, academics and high-ranking officials from international organisations will express their views on key issues of sustainable development, focusing on solutions to global environmental, economic and social challenges.

The aim of the Summit is to play a role in fostering the sustainability shift, as part of which participants seek answers to questions about what consequences can be drawn in a post-coronavirus world and what needs to be changed.

Where are the opportunities for society to thrive while reducing the dangers of climate change? How can we increase added value while reducing the involvement of new materials, including the amount of waste generated?

The future has already started with our actions of yesterday. Now the question is in which direction it is headed, and it is still up to us how we shape it. Planet Budapest 2021 offers tools and knowledge for this.
János Áder, President of Hungary, Patron of Planet Budapest 2021

Programme

The topics of the Summit will be discussed in a plenary session within the framework of ten thematic sessions. Each thematic session is opened by two introductory lectures followed by moderated Davos-style panel discussions.
